Reading your SMETS2 meters
To read a SMETS2 (Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications 2) electricity meter, follow these steps:
Step 1. Locate the meter display
- Find the digital screen on your SMETS2 electricity meter. It is usually on the front of the meter.
Step 2. Wake up the display:
- If the screen is blank, press any button to wake it up.
Step 3. Navigate the menu:
- For Landis+Gyr meters: Press and hold the 'A' button for a few seconds to cycle through the different displays. Keep pressing the 'A' button until you reach the electricity reading.
- For EDMI meters: Press the ‘OK’ button to wake up the display, then press the ‘OK’ button again to cycle through the different displays.
- For Aclara meters: Press the 'A' button to wake up the display. Press the 'A' button again to cycle through the options until you see the reading.
Step 4. Find the correct reading:
- Look for a reading labeled as "KWh" or "Total Act Import." This is the total consumption reading in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
- If your meter has more than one rate (for example, day and night rates), the readings might be labeled as “Rate 1,” “Rate 2,” etc. Ensure you take note of both readings if applicable.
Step 5. Record the reading:
- Write down the numbers displayed. Ignore any leading zeros and decimal points. For example, if the display shows 000123.45, record it as 123.
If you have a smart energy monitor (in-home display), you can often find the current meter readings there, which can be more convenient than reading the meter directly. The in-home display shows real-time data and past consumption, making it easier to track your energy usage.
